ARMOUR GALVANIZING PROCESS
Steel is immersed in diluted, ambient temperature hydrochloric acid to clean steel and remove scale, rust, etc.
#2 Rinse Tank:
Steel is then rinsed with water.
#3 Flux Tank:
Fluxing in an aqueous solution of zinc-ammonium chloride is the final surface preparation step to remove oxides and prevent further oxides from forming on the surface prior to galvanizing.
Hot Dip Galvanizing
#4 Galvanizing Tank:
The material is completely immersed in a bath (kettle) of molten zinc at 4450C.
#5 Quenching or cooling:
The articles are cooled by either water or ambient air immediately after withdrawal from the bath.
#6 Finishing / Inspection:
Products are closely scrutinized for coating thickness and coating appearance as per applicable standards.
ARMOUR QUALITY ASSURANCE
All steel hot dip galvanized meet the requirements:
CSA Standard CAN/CSA-G164 “Hot Dip Galvanizing of Irregularly Shaped Articles”
ASTM Standard A153 “Standard Specification for Zinc Coating (Hot Dip) on Iron and Steel Hardware”.
ASTM Standard A123 “Standard Specification for Zinc (Hot Dip Galvanized) Coatings on Iron and Steel Products”.
The CSA and ASTM Standards detail the hot dip galvanizing requirements as they relate to zinc composition, bath composition, mass of coating, sampling & testing, workmanship & finish (including appearance, color, texture & threaded articles), inspection and handling.
